Ride to Cure Diabetes 2009

The Invitation

You are invited to play a vital part in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s (JDRF) international challenge to find a cure for diabetes and its complications. You can challenge diabetes and challenge yourself at the Ride to Cure Diabetes, a spectacular bike ride to be held in the Barossa Valley, South Australia from 16-18 January 2009.

Open to individuals and teams, the Ride to Cure Diabetes is a weekend adventure. You will enjoy the challenge of an amazing bike ride (you choose the distance that suits you, 35, 80 or 160 km) in a stunning location with inspiring, like minded people. Most importantly, you will have the satisfaction of knowing that you are making a significant contribution to finding a cure for diabetes by raising funds for the best and most promising Australian diabetes research.

How to get involved

In order to participate in the Ride to Cure Diabetes you must achieve a minimum fundraising target for JDRF. Different targets apply for different types of participants. You choose the category that best suits your needs:

Non-refundable Registration Fee:

    All participants - $100

Minimum Fundraising Goals (includes $100 registration fee):

    Full Package Riders - $3,500
Weekend Only Riders (no transport) - $2,800
Day Riders (Sat 17 Jan day only, no travel) - $1,000
    Non-riding supporters - $2,000

JDRF provides full support to all participants to reach and exceed their fundraising goal. You'll be assigned a JDRF Account Manager who will assist you with developing a fundraising plan and staying on track to reach all your goals. Plenty of support resources will be available online including fundraising tips, training and nutrition tips and much more.

Travel and Accommodation

Interstate Flights

If you are eligible for flights to the event (Full Package Riders and Non-Riding Supporters) JDRF will contact you in November 2008 to get you to choose identified flights on Friday 16 and Sunday 18 January. JDRF’s travel agent will then make the booking and advise you of your flights details.

Transporting your bike

Your bike will need to be packed in a box or carry bag for transportation. If you are booked on Qantas you can obtain a bike box direct from Qantas. This must be done prior to your flight. The best solution however is to contact your local bike shop and ask them to pack your bike into a box for transport. Most will do this free or for a small charge.

JDRF has secured the services of Bernie Jones Cycles technicians. They will unpack your bike and set up to your requirements. At the end of the Ride they will also repack your bike for transportation home.

Accomodation

Accommodation will be twin share at the Novotel Barossa Valley Resort or the Barossa Weintel Resort. Visit http://www.novotelbarossa.com/  and http://www.barossaweintal.com.au. for more information on the facilities.

Single person accommodation (own room) may be available. A $250 fee is payable for single rooms and supply is subject to availability.

Coach transfers

Using JDRF designated flights: Upon arrival you will be met by JDRF Staff who will be wearing Ride to Cure Diabetes polo shirts and holding Ride to Cure Diabetes signs. JDRF will know what flight you are on and will meet each guest as you arrive. Once you have arrived and collected your luggage JDRF Staff will escort you to a bus for transportation to the Barossa Valley. In order for the buses to meet all flights you may be required to wait for a short while on the bus at the airport until all guests for that bus have arrived.

Using other flights: If you have chosen to arrive on a flight that is different to the one JDRF designated or to arrive into Adelaide prior to Friday 16 January you must contact your JDRF Account Manager and advise us whether you will be making your own travel arrangements to the Barossa Valley OR making plans to meet JDRF organised transport at Adelaide Airport.

JDRF is unable to arrange additional transport outside of that which JDRF arranges to meet designated flights.
