Donations
- Q. Is my donation tax deductible?
A. Yes, donations over the minimum amount of $2.00 are tax deductible. When you complete the online donation process an official receipt will be forwarded to your email address. - Q. Does the site accept overseas donations?
A. Yes - Q. Is there a minimum amount I can donate?
A. No, there is no minimum; however we recommend at least $20. - Q. Can I donate anonymously?
A. Yes, simply tick "I'd like my donation to be anonymous" on the donation form. The amount will still show up on the web page of the person you are sponsoring, but without your name. Should you wish to make a general donation to JDRF not associated with the Ride to Cure Diabetes, you can do so via phone or online. Details of how to do this are available at www.jdrf.org.au/donate. - Q Is your donation site secure?
A. This website is hosted by efirst, the owners of payments.com.au, who are experts in payment security. Every payment made is fully secured using very high level encryption technology. The real time payment system authorises a payment within 6-10 seconds of clicking the sponsor button. The site uses 128 bit SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) between your browser and our website, and 1024 bit java encryption (with a double 56 bit DES key) between our website and the Australian Banking Network. What this means to you as a user is that you have more chance of having your credit card details misused when paying for something in person, than through our website. - Q. How do I know if my donation was successful?
A. If you have provided a valid email address, you will receive a receipt via email shortly after you complete the donation process. You should also see your donation listed on the page of the person you are sponsoring. - Q. Will I/my sponsor receive a receipt for an online donation?
A. Yes, a receipt will be sent to the email address you provide. - Q. What types of payment do you accept?
A. The online system accepts Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. Donations can be made to Riders in person by cash or cheque.

A. Money raised through cash or cheques can be banked at any Westpac Bank using the deposit slip in the back of the receipt book. It's important to bank the money using only the official deposit slips, otherwise your hard earned fundraising dollars won't be attributed to your personal and team totals! - Q. Yes, you will need to have your minimum fundraising target banked before 21 January 2011. In addition participants requiring accommodation and/or flights are required to have at least $1000 banked by Friday 12 November 2010.
General
- Q. Where does the money I raise for Ride to Cure Diabetes go?
A. The money goes to funding promising type 1 diabetes research in Australia, as selected by a committee of medical experts and laypeople. For more details please visit www.jdrf.org.au/about-jdrf-australia/where-your-money-goes - Q. Where can I learn more about JDRF?
A. You can learn more by checking out the "About JDRF" tab on the top menu. If you would like additional information, please visit www.jdrf.org.au - Q. What is the cancellation policy?
A. JDRF is bound by contracts with several different organisations to make this event possible. This means that JDRF must provide guarantees by certain deadlines, resulting in established costs that must be covered. A Rider cancellation policy has been established to ensure that these obligations are met. JDRF reserves the right to cancel any person’s participation at any stage should, in JDRF’s opinion, it is unlikely the rider will meet the minimum fundraising goal of the participation package they have selected. Please download the 2011 Participant Guide document from Resources section. - Q. How will I know what flight I am booked on?
A. If you are eligible for flights to the event (Full Package Riders and Non-Riding Supporters) JDRF will contact you in November to get you to choose identified flights on Friday 21 and Sunday 23 January. JDRF’s travel agent will then make the booking and advise you of your flights details.
Registration
- Q. How do I register?
A. You can register for the Ride to Cure Diabetes on this site by clicking on the Register Now button. - Q. Okay, so I've registered myself, what do I do next?
A. You can send a link to your personal website to your friends and family, and use the receipt book, to start asking for donations. Visit the Resources section of the website for ideas to help fundraise. - Q. I am going to register as a Team Leader. How do I register? How does my team register?
A. First, go through the registration process, selecting the "Register as a new team captain" option on page 1. On page 2 you will be given the opportunity to your name your team. Once you have registered you will have both a personal website to use for fundraising and a team website where you can view the progress of your team. You must register prior to your team members registering or they will not be part of your team in the system. After you have registered, ask your prospective team members to register at http://www.jdrf.org.au/Ride. Be sure to let them know the team name you have chosen. Each member should select the "Register as a team member" option on page 1 of registration. On page 2 of the registration form, the member will simply select the name of your team and that will associate them with the Ride site and the team. As team members register you will be able to view them on your team webpage. - Q. Does everyone have to register for the Ride?
A. Yes. JDRF will work with you to help you achieve your fundraising goals. In addition, registered participants are able to use our online fundraising system. - Q. What if my friend/family member/team member does not have access to email to register?
A. As the website is the easiest way to raise funds, we strongly recommend that anyone with email access register via the website. If someone on your team does not have email access, they can register via fax. You can download the fax form from the Resources page. - Q: I’ve just realised I’ve registered for the wrong team or as the wrong type of participant. What should I do?
A: As long as you have not received any on-line donations, we can delete your registration so that your email account is freed up to re-register correctly. Let us know via the “contact us” link that you need us to do so. - Q: Can I be a Non-Riding supporter and be a member of a team.
A: Yes. Non-Riding supporters must register to support a registered Rider. If the Registered Rider is a member of a team then the Non-Riding supporter will become a member of that team
