Riding 500km's to change lives

My Activity Tracking

My target 500 kms

I am riding (indoors) the TDF and raising money for T1 diabetes research...

I’m doing the JDRF One Ride to raise funds for type 1 diabetes! This means I will be riding from 29th Aug to 20th September alongside the world’s biggest cycling event in France. While I am challenging myself and competing against other cyclists, I am also raising funds to support research to cure, prevent and better treat type 1 diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes can strike anyone at any time, and 7 Australians are diagnosed every day. Diagnosis means a 24/7 fight with no break and facing an extra 180 decisions a day to remain safe and healthy. JDRF is the largest funder of type 1 diabetes research in the world.

DONATE NOW to help change the lives of more than 120,000 Australians living with T1D. Thank you!

My Updates

Done and dusted

Monday 21st Sep
Happy to finish le tour with Richie on the podium and $1103 in donations
Surprised myself in getting just over 600km under my belt as well - so grateful that we bought the indoor trainer back in March when the world looked like turning to s#@*t, cos it did!
Maybe in a week we will be allowed back out on the road proper, but I have enjoyed my rides in virtual zwift and across Europe on the tacx app

One week to go

Monday 14th Sep
Surprisingly, I think I will reach my target of 500km this week without too much trouble
Not much else to do in Melbourne during Stage 4 restrictions when you can only walk the dog for max one hour per day!
I would be rocking in the corner if we hadn't bought the indoor trainer back in March...
Thanks to everyone who has donated to the cause - research into type 1 Diabetes - I am still a way off getting to my  revised target of $1,000 - so any donations are gratefully accepted :)
Our team of four #melbournelockdown has ridden 1,700km in two weeks, slightly less than the riders in the TDF but impressive none the same
I can safely say only Glenn and Michael have done any mountains ;)
Thanks again for your donations

Week one underway

Wednesday 2nd Sep
Started with a zwift cx race - a virtual event where I was stone motherless last! Hey, but I finished...
Monday was an FTP test to see if the 6 week training program (again, zwift) had made a difference and yes, 10% improvement
The onto the tacx app with rides in Flanders and Gent, lovely sunny mornings with hardly any traffic, felt like I was actually there, even down to the cobblestones (too many!)
Happy with my start to the challenge and thanks to generous sponsors I am doing well on the fundraising side too

Thank you to my Sponsors
