Riding 1500km's to change lives

My Activity Tracking

1,762
kms

My target 1500 kms

I'm fundraising for a great cause!

I’m doing the JDRF One Ride to raise funds for Type 1 diabetes! I’ll be challenging myself over three weeks from the 29 Aug to Sept 20 whilst riding along with the biggest annual cycling event in the world, Le Tour de France.

Usually when the tour is on us amateur cyclists park our bikes and spend a lot of time on the couch watching the pros but not this year! I'll be juggling the 2am finishes with riding at least 1,157km (1/3 of the distance of this years Tour de France) to  raise at least $1,157 for this fantastic charity.

I’m doing this as our daughter Imogen was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 6 and JDRF are leading the fight against Type 1 Diabetes by funding research to cure, treat and prevent the disease.

Type 1 diabetes can strike anyone at any time, and 7 Australians are diagnosed every day. Diagnosis means a 24/7 fight with no break and facing an extra 180 decisions a day to remain safe and healthy. JDRF is the largest funder of type 1 diabetes research in the world.

DONATE NOW to help change the lives of more than 120,000 Australians living with T1D. Thank you!

The Final Stage

Sunday 20th Sep

It’s the final stage of the JDRF One Ride, I’m up to 1,625km and thanks to your support and generosity we have raised $2,670 all of which will be used by JDRF to fund research to cure, treat and prevent diabetes.

I’ve got One Ride left in me and would love to get a few more donations to help JDRF hit their $100,000 🎯 on the final day.

If you’d like to help get us both over the finishing line, please donate 🙏

Week 3 Update

Friday 18th Sep

I’ve been doing the JDRF One Ride to raise funds for Type 1 diabetes & just like Le Tour de France it finishes this Sunday so I’ve got just 2 days left to hit both my 1,500km cycling target & $2,000 fundraising target.

The 13th of October 2008 was the worst day off my life!

That was the day our 6 year old daughter Imogen was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes which meant she would have to have multiple daily injections of insulin for the rest of her life or until a cure for diabetes is found.

I can admit that on that night I stood out the front of the Royal Children’s Hospital balling my eyes out for a very long time. I knew what that news meant as my dad has had Type 1 Diabetes since he was in his 20’s and I’ve assisted him with the highs & lows of his blood sugar levels, seen the complications and almost witnessed him go into diabetic coma.

I have a $1,000 bet with Imogen that a cure will be found by the time she turns 21, that’s just over 2 years away but there’s nothing I wouldn’t give for our gorgeous daughter to be rid of this disease!

Those of you that have met Imogen know that she is one of the most positive, kindest, caring & considerate people that you could ever met. Imy never complains about anything, she just takes it in her stride all whilst managing her diabetes which at times can be very challenging.

If you’ve just taken the time to read this I’d like to thank you and ask if you could spare just $10 (the cost of 2 cups of coffee) for JDRF to fund research to cure, treat and prevent this terrible disease.

End of week 2 udpdate

Sunday 13th Sep

Please have a 👀 at these numbers & consider donating 🙏

1,157 the number of km’s I’ve ridden so far

$1,054 the amount of money I’ve raised so far 🙏

17,500 the number of injections Imogen has had so far😥

30,600 the number of finger pricks Imogen has done so far 😢

122,300 the number of Australia's living with Type 1 Diabetes 😱

$5,320 the amount of money that would be raised for JDRF to fund research to cure, treat and prevent this terrible disease if each of my friends donated just $10!

As I have achieved my goal of riding 1/3 of the distance of this years Tour de France with one week to go I will now push on  & commit to riding 1,500km whilst increasing my fundraising goal to $1,500 💪

Week 2 Update

Friday 11th Sep

I’m doing the JDRF One Ride to raise funds for Type 1 diabetes! I’m be challenging myself over three weeks from the 29 Aug to Sept 20 whilst riding along with the biggest annual cycling event in the world, Le Tour de France.

This charity is very close to my heart as our daughter Imogen was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 6 so I’m having a real crack at this and have ridden 872km so far with plans to get that well over 1,000km this weekend.

I will do the km’s but it’s my fundraising that needs some help and any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

JDRF are leading the fight against Type 1 Diabetes by funding research to cure, treat and prevent the disease and Type 1 diabetes can strike anyone at any time with 7 Australians are diagnosed every day.
