Help Improve Lives For Type 1 Diabetics

I'm doing the JDRF One Ride to raise funds for type 1 diabetes! This means I will be riding on 29 November 2025 through the Barossa Valley. 

This year, this event will mean more to me than ever before. After 18 years of living with Type 1 diabetes, earlier in the year I was hospitalised due to a fault in technology. The technology which is meant to be 'life saving' became life threatening. This happened not once but twice due to incorrect data being shared between my diabetic devices. 

I experienced the worst of both hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia, neither of which I would ever wish against my worst enemy to experience.

I try live life to its limits and full potential as most of you will know, but in order to be able to do that, my diabetes control is the ultimate decider with what I can do.

Thankfully I have been fortunate enough to be surrounded by such amazing individuals and healthcare professionals to enable me to continue living the life I dream of.

I am eternally grateful to still be here and have the chance to speak about this and take part in progressing the future of type 1 diabetes management.

Since the unfolding of these near-death experiences, I have been eager more than ever to get involved deeper in the T1D world and find solutions to manage my life the best way possible.

Type 1 diabetes can strike anyone at any time, and 8 Australians are diagnosed every day. Diagnosis means a 24/7 fight with no break and people living with type 1 diabetes face an extra 180 decisions a day to remain safe and healthy. JDRF is the largest funder of type 1 diabetes research in the world.
