Riding 40km's to change lives

I'm fundraising for a great cause! I have close friends with T1, & I want to help fundraise for JDRF to continue their research into T1, to provide improved quality of life for those living with T1.

I'm doing the JDRF One Ride to raise funds for type 1 diabetes! This means I will be riding on the 17th February through the picturesque Barossa Valley. While I am challenging myself, I am also raising funds to help improve the lives of those living with type 1 diabetes.

I am riding 160 kms on the day, not 40 as it says above!

Type 1 diabetes can strike anyone at any time, and 8 Australians are diagnosed every day. Diagnosis means a 24/7 fight with no break and people living with type 1 diabetes facing an extra 180 decisions a day to remain safe and healthy. JDRF is the largest funder of type 1 diabetes research in the world.

DONATE NOW to help change the lives of more than 130,000 Australians living with T1D. Thank you!

My Updates

Bike bag packed

Thursday 15th Feb
Thanks to Nino for his generosity

Last hill climb set, in beautiful Kings Park / Mt Eliza

Monday 12th Feb
Today I pushed myself hard to attack the Kings Park Hills. Not quite the elevation of the Barossa but several laps completed. My last ride before I pack it up & fly to Adelaide. Not sure I can make the distance in the time, but will give it my best effort. Thanks for your support!

Challenging day to ride to Mandurah & back.

Saturday 27th Jan
I want you to know I am working hard preparing for this event. If I didn't have this challenge, I would certainly be in a very different situation, this is giving me some much needed relief from my mental health challenges & other difficulties I am facing currently.

4 days of cycling training completed

Sunday 21st Jan
Weekly report Sunday 21st January,  less than 4 weeks to go.
Thursday 45km
Friday 45km
Saturday 100km
Sunday 32km
All up that's a fair bit of training  It is keeping me going & pushing me a long way out of my comfort zone. I am struggling daily with my mental health & related issues, but cycling has provided a lifeline to keep me going.
My bike will be in this week for a well deserved service & new cluster & gearing to hopefully make it easier to hillclimb, as it is an old 9-speed & it just doesn't have the gearing for hills, I have to work too hard & my cadence is too low. Thanks to George's Bike Shop in Willetton. New shoes & cleats, so getting all the gear into place now.
Thanks to all my sponsors. I will keep training when I can, & even when I find it hard to get out of bed, I will try to get a session in.

What a weekend - heat wave & serious distance covered

Sunday 14th Jan
Yesterday (Saturday 13th) I rode 118km & today I backed it up with 35km. It was a long lonely hot but important ride yesterday on the Kwinana Freeway Bike path.
Today I had the pleasure of Julie's support & company on our Sunday morning ride, not our longest but enough for me. I am doing my best to prepare for this event, so thanks for your support, it's appreciated.

Out around the river this morning with Julie & Rachel.

Wednesday 27th Dec
Total cycle time 2 hrs 50 mins. Only 100km to go! Averaged 21km/h today so improving each ride. Thanks for all your support. I  am motivated to improve & keep training. 🚴‍♀️🚴‍♀️

Started the serious training...

Wednesday 20th Dec
Out for my second hard ride of training, despite a lot of anxiety & stress I managed 100 mins riding using fabulous Freeway bike path. I aim to keep trying to go every second day from now on, & start pushing my physical limits. Just need to look after my mental health as well.

Out for my first real training ride with my cycling friends

Sunday 29th Oct

Thank you to my Sponsors
